Butterfly Production Level II paving the way to becoming Marinduque a Tourist Attraction

Due to TPSAT’s partnership with LGU Torrijos thru its Rural Health Unit (RHU), the Butterfly Production Level II paved the way in promoting the butterfly industry to foreign visitors.

Last July 21, 2023, TESDA-TPSAT received visitors from RHU of Torrijos. They were students from the United States who came to Marinduque for their Remote Island Medicine Program. It is a short program that serves as their immersion to experience health system delivery across the globe while witnessing its cultural diversity and natural beauty.

Aside from letting the foreign students learn and assist the RHU-Torrijos in their health activities, RHU introduced the butterfly industry in the province after all Marinduque is known as the “Butterfly Capital of the Philippines”.

Upon learning that TPSAT is offering a program for Butterfly Production Level II, Dr. Joyce Anne Ramento, the Officer-in-Charge of RHU- Torrijos, requested Ms. Rosarie R. Paras, TPSAT Administrator, to promote the butterfly industry to their visitors.

During their visit, they were warmly welcomed by Ms. Maria Teresita Ferrer, the designated Officer-In-Charge. A brief profile of TPSAT was shared to orient the visitors of the institution. On the other hand, Mr. Jazzer Loto, the trainer for Butterfly Production Level II, shared the history of the butterfly industry in the province, some important knowledge in rearing butterfly species, and the efforts of the provincial government to protect this industry. To make their visit more engaging, he let visitors experience the spreading and mounting butterflies in in frames.
