MIMAROPA REGIONAL SKILLS OLYMPICS 2026 OPENS – Island Provinces Connect via Hybrid Modality

Proving that geographical fragmentation is no barrier to synergy and technical excellence, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) MIMAROPA successfully kicked off the WorldSkills Philippines MIMAROPA Regional Skills Olympics 2026 via a dynamic hybrid modality.

Participating island provinces seamlessly bypassed the challenges of open-sea isolation, connecting live via Zoom from their respective local venues to witness the grand Opening Ceremony. The virtual-meets-physical event officially introduced the region’s elite Competitors and Experts before Regional Director (RD) Baron Jose L. Lagran formally declared the competition open.

The hybrid setup itself stood as a testament to this year’s theme, “MIMAROPA Skills: Resilience through Excellence.” In his keynote address, RD Baron Jose L. Lagran lauded the adaptive spirit of the region.

“Resilience is not merely the ability to overcome challenges; it is the determination to continue moving forward despite difficulties,” RD Lagran emphasized. “Excellence, on the other hand, is the commitment to improve ourselves and perform beyond expectations.”

Addressing the 20 elite contenders representing the provinces, RD Lagran reminded them that they carry a much larger mantle than just their toolkits. “Tandaan ninyo na kayo ay hindi lamang nakikipagpaligsahan; kayo ay kumakatawan sa sipag, tiyaga, at husay ng mga manggagawang Pilipino. Ang inyong paglahok ay patunay na ang tech-voc ay isang mahalagang daan tungo sa personal na tagumpay at pambansang kaunlaran,” he added.

RD Lagran further underscored that the platform is designed to build a “skilled, resilient, and future-ready MIMAROPA,” where the courage to step up is already a victory in itself.

In his Welcome Remarks, Provincial Director Glenn Niño M. Sartillo highlighted that while the WorldSkills framework inherently drives innovation through strict competition, the ultimate benchmark is the competitors’ moral compass—especially in a decentralized, hybrid environment.

“While WorldSkills is obviously a competition, do not forget that this is a test of character as well,” PD Glenn noted, identifying integrity, honor, discipline, and excellence as the core values of true champions.

He strongly reminded the delegation that rankings mean nothing without ethics:

“Ang tunay na tagumpay ay di lamang makikita sa medalya o tropeyo. Nakikita ito sa katapatan ng bawat kalahok sa pagsunod sa mga alituntunin kahit tayo po’y hybrid, sa respeto sa kapwa competitor, at sa dignidad na ipinapakita sa bawat gawain. Victory earned through honesty and fairness is a victory that commands respect.”

PD Glenn concluded with a powerful charge for the region, stating that TESDA believes skills excellence must always be paired with ethical excellence, because the world needs highly skilled professionals who can be completely trusted. Over the coming days, the best skilled individuals across MIMAROPA will push their technical boundaries in a bid to secure a spot to represent the region on the national stage. Thanks to modern connectivity, the digital bridges built today ensure that no island is left behind in showcasing the world-class talent of the MIMAROPAn workforce.
