Birth of MiMaRoPa Region

The Birth of MIMAROPA …

Region IV – B (MIMAROPA), the newest region in the country, was created when Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo signed Executive Order 103 on 17 May 2002.

Executive Order 103 divided Region IV into two separate regions:  Region IV-A comprising CALABARZON provinces and Region IV-B covering the MIMAROPA provinces while the province of Aurora was transferred to Region III.  The President issued the EO to fast track the growth and development of MIMAROPA which was observed to be lagging much behind compared with the CALABARZON.  MIMAROPA is the acronym of the name of its provinces:  MIndoro Occidental and Oriental, MArinduque, ROmblon and PAlawan.

The Regional Development Council (RDC) resolved that all national line agencies should work towards the establishment of their respective regional offices to serve Region IV-B.  In line with this, TESDA IV-B was created with the designation of Dir. Pilar G. de Leon as the Director-In-Charge.  Preparatory activities were undertaken to operationalize the Division of TESDA Region IV into Regions IV-A and IV-B.  The setting of the Regional Office, transfer of some personnel, assets and records and acquisition of budget were undertaken with the support and assistance of Office of the Director General (ODG), TESDA IV-A, Office of the Chief of Services for Administration (OCSA) and National Institute for Technical Vocational Education and Training (NITVET).

With almost a year since its creation, TESDA MIMAROPA is now ready to meet the challenges of the newly created region.
