TESDA-MIMAROPA brings’Service-on-Wheels’ to San Jose

SAN JOSE, Occidental Mindoro, Feb 9 (PIA –The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) – MIMAROPA recently brought their Services-on-Wheels program to San Jose.

According to TESDA Regional Director Carlos Flores, Services-on-Wheels is like a one-stop-shop where TESDA brings its experts and services to the people.

During its two-day visit, the agency distributed documentations and certificates of accreditation to trainers, assessors and schools. They also signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Occidental Mindoro State College (OMSC), Department of Education (Dep Ed)) and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) for the Pisara sa Selda program, which gives livelihood training to prison inmates.

Flores said that the agency grants scholarship programs to special sectors as part of TESDA’s 17-Point Reform and Development Agenda. Some of the special sectors are People with Disability (PWD), Rebel Returnees (RR), Indigenous Peoples (IPs), prison and women sector and others.

Another project the agency is training for solar assembly and repair for the IP sector.  According to Flores, TESDA will provide the equipment and skills training to be attended by selected members of the IP community.

“We will teach them how to install and troubleshoot,” Flores added. He also said that this project will not only provide the participants a source of livelihood but will ensure that their community will soon have sufficient solar power, giving light to the whole community, even though they are off the grid.

The Regional Director also said that TESDA will offer scholarships focusing on construction, tourism, manufacturing, logistics and agriculture. He emphasized that with the province’s thrust in agriculture, Occidental Mindoro will surely benefit with TESDA’s new offered courses of organic agriculture, animal production and aquaculture.

Flores also invited interested TESDA applicants to visit the provincial or municipal local government and enlist in the synchronized enrollment day happening on February 27 – 28. (VND/PIA MIMAROPA/Occ Min)
