Puerto Princesa City, Palawan – The Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Regional TVET Innovation Center (RTIC) was held at the Puerto Princesa School of Arts and Trades (PPSAT) in Barangay Sta. Monica, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan on April 26, 2025. This important event aligns with the Secretary’s 8-Point Agenda, which highlights innovation, authentic learning, and entrepreneurial development.
The RTIC will serve as a hub for advanced training, research, and development, particularly focusing on Agri-Tourism industries. The center aims to equip the local workforce with skills to thrive in the global economy. With an allocation of P36.9 million, the facility is expected to be completed by the end of the year. PPSAT, selected as a beneficiary of this initiative, will lead the implementation of specialized programs, especially those related to tourism and Halal Awareness, in line with the Philippine Halal Export Development and Promotion Program.
Key TESDA officials, including Sec. Jose Francisco “Kiko” B. Benitez, attended the ceremony, underscoring the importance of the project. Sec. Benitez highlighted the significance of collaboration in expanding the TVET ecosystem and reaffirmed TESDA’s commitment to workforce development, economic expansion, and poverty reduction.
The event also featured the ceremonial signing of the Pledge of Support, a blessing of the RTIC grounds by Rev. Fr. Emmanuel P. Dormile, and the oath-taking of the Provincial Technical Education and Skills Development Committee (PTESDC) and PPSAT Advisory Council members, administered by Secretary Benitez.
A media press conference followed, where local media engaged with TESDA officials, gaining valuable insights into the RTIC project’s objectives, impact, and future plans.
The Project Management Office, under Director Gilbert M. Castro, will oversee the construction to ensure the timely completion of the facility, marking a significant advancement in the region’s TVET landscape.
